This detail page shows several photos of the book to show what a first edition looks like.  The images are original photos taken of my personal copy of the first edition book. 

The Silent Speaker (1946):

• The first Rex Stout book published by Viking Press. 
• It has a textured teal cloth cover with gold lettering and a red line.   
• The dustjacket has some unique features:
• The front flap has the price ($2.50) at the top and "The Viking Press New York" at the bottom. 
• The back flap also has the Viking Press information on it. 
• The copyright page has "Printed in USA by H. Wolfe Book Manufacturing Company" on it. 
• There is no Viking book club edition for this title.  The book club edition was published by Detective Book Club, along with two title from other authors.
