This detail page shows several photos of the book to show what a first edition looks like.  The images are original photos taken of my personal copy of the first edition book. 

The Silent Speaker - Collins (1947):

• This is the Collins Crime Club UK first edition
• The back of the dustjacket is completely different from later editions
• The front flap has the price at the bottom (7s 6d net)
• The back flap has a picture of Rex Stout on it
• The cover is red cloth with black lettering, with the book spine of later editions having a Collins logo on it
• The copyright page has no further printings noted and has the year on the bottom line
• The comparison slide provided shows the difference between a first edition and a later printing.
