This detail page shows several photos of the book to show what a first edition looks like.  The images are original photos taken of my personal copy of the first edition book. 

The Doorbell Rang (1965):

• The dustjacket has some unique features:
• The front flap has the price ($3.50) at the top and "The Viking Press New York" at the bottom. 
• The back flap has three lines about Viking Press above "Printed in USA".
• The copyright page has the Library of Congress catalog number and "Printed in the USA by Colonial Press" on it. 
• The first edition book cover is red with a black spine and red lettering with a silver bullseye and lettering on the spine, completely different from the book club edition, as you can see below, while the book club edition is just red.
• There are a couple other, later versions of this book that have completely different covers.  They are not the original first edition.

• The first edition measures .9" x 5.7" x 8.3"
• The book club edition measures .8" x 5.6" x 8.55"
